I don’t know about you, but I’m a big fan of setting and accomplishing my goals.
Setting goals has served me well over the years (even if many of my New Year’s resolutions fall by the wayside).
In addition to being a fan of setting goals, I’m also a fan of Tony Robbins.
He’s the well-known executive who teaches people how to set and accomplish their goals.
His concepts are surprisingly helpful and based on science, which makes them even more appealing to a lot of people like me.
A few years ago, the Tony Robbins organization asked me to speak at one of his events in Las Vegas. It was an amazing experience and if you ever get a chance to attend one, I can wholeheartedly recommend them.
Tony uses a goal setting system that I wanted to share with you. I’ve adapted his system and have printed it out on a card that I reference every Monday morning.
Here’s the blank card.
To the right of the card under “category,” I list the key business categories I want to focus on.
Then, I put my 5 year goal for each category in the “5 Years” column.
But if you’re like most people, a 5 year goal seems like an eternity. It’s so far out that it’s just an idea instead of a reality.
And that’s where the Tony Robbins system can help.
Robbins teaches people to set their goals, and then to split the goals in half.
In other words, you set your 5 year goals and then write down what you need to be doing in 2.5 years in order to accomplish your 5 year goals.
Then, you rinse and repeat.
What do you have to be doing in 1.25 years in order to accomplish your 2.5 year goals?
And what do you have to be doing in 6 months to accomplish your 1.25 year goals?
I’ve been using this system for years and it works like a charm.
Here’s an image of the 5 year roadmap with my goals written in each column.
You’ll see that I’ve also added my handwritten notes marked “Today,” “Tomorrow,” and “Other.” These notes keep me on track to stay focused on what I need to be doing immediately to achieve my longer-term goals and objectives.
If you’re interested in setting and accomplishing your goals, I suspect the system above will be helpful to you.
With that in mind, feel free to download your own version of the 5 year roadmap in a handy Excel format. Just click the image below.
Good luck! And keep me posted on your progress!
